Removable partial Dentures

Removable Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are the most common type of denture. They are designed to replace one or more missing teeth. They are often referred to as " removable partial denture" or "partials".

People often choose removable partial denture (RPD) over other type of restorative prosthesis for the following reasons:

  • Oral Hygiene : Because of the removable nature, partial denture can be taken out of the mouth for easy cleaning and to maintain the excellent oral health.
  • Repairs: This is a big advantage of RPD over fixed partial denture. As long as the denture is not too damaged, we can repair its structure. Most of repairs can be done on same day.
  • Transformation:  As RPD, we have ability to transform it to a complete denture, or extend the denture to another side of the arch. Add more teeth and can change its classification.
  • Less invasive: As compared to other restorative treatment such as grown or bridges or implants, RPD offer relatively the least invasive and destructive restoration treatments. Most can be made without having to grind or adjust adjacent teeth. In case of cast partial denture, we may need some adjustment to natural teeth to ensure the functionality is achieved.

There are 3 type of partials including Cast partials, Acrylic partials and Flexible partials
